2021-12-02 22:09:32 <Guest81> hello o/ im new to xmonad, i use i3 since many years and i want to switch to xmonad. im having an hard time changing the default shortcuts tho. for example, i would like to move the shortcuts that switch to workspace 1/2/3/4 to Mod + 7/8/9/0. If somebody has a hint to do so, im interested !
2021-12-02 22:10:49 <Vermoot> I'm still looking for a way to combine CycleWS and IndependentScreens :(
2021-12-02 22:11:41 <geekosaur> Guest81, what do you want to do with the workspaces already on those keys?
2021-12-02 22:12:25 <geekosaur> (7/8/9 switch to those workspaces. 0 is available)
2021-12-02 22:15:03 <Guest81> geekosaur im not planning to use them, i dont need 10 workspaces

2021-12-02 22:27:58 <geekosaur> not perhaps the ideal way to do it in case you plan to change the number of workspaces at some point, but should get you started
2021-12-02 22:28:18 <geekosaur> note that it requires xmonad-contrib for additionalKeysP and removeKeysP

2021-12-03 08:10:12 <Drishal[m]> on xmonad 0.16 iirc `xmonad --restart` used to work fine
2021-12-03 08:10:12 <Drishal[m]> but now with 0.17 it no longer restarts xmobar
2021-12-03 08:20:42 <Solid> Drishal[m]: you're spawning a pipe and still want to use property-based logging? That doesn't seem right
2021-12-03 08:21:34 <Drishal[m]> Solid: hmm but interestingly this used to work fine with xmonad 0.16
2021-12-03 08:26:27 <Solid> if it ever did I reckon it was more a bug than anything else :)
2021-12-03 08:30:21 <Drishal[m]> Solid: which means this somehow got fixed
2021-12-03 08:30:31 <Drishal[m]> so which is the rigth way to setup xmobar?
2021-12-03 08:30:59 <Drishal[m]> s/rigth/right/
2021-12-03 08:33:52 <Solid> without being too verbose (I got a work meeting in 2 minutes :)) this is covered in the tutorial right around here: https://xmonad.org/TUTORIAL.html#make-xmonad-and-xmobar-talk-to-each-other

2021-12-03 09:22:41 <Drishal[m]> could I just get a sample config or something which I can use ?

2021-12-03 09:42:47 <Drishal[m]> is this even the right way to write the main part?
2021-12-03 09:42:53 <Drishal[m]> * write the `main, * main` part?

2021-12-03 09:54:25 <thonoht[m]> I don't think you need the logHook at all, if you follow that guide mentioned above

2021-12-03 09:56:56 <thonoht[m]> For me xmonad doesn't seem to restart at all anymore though, so I'm not sure what xmobar would do if I restarted

2021-12-03 10:08:31 <Drishal[m]> instead of declaring in the where ?
2021-12-03 10:08:43 <Drishal[m]> * in the `where, * where`, * part ?
2021-12-03 10:08:59 <thonoht[m]> Yeah
2021-12-03 10:12:04 <thonoht[m]> Note that this uses property based logging rather than a pipe to send data from xmonad to xmobar, so you may need to update your xmobar config as well
2021-12-03 10:12:24 <Drishal[m]> well I think its better to rewrite my stolen xmonad stuff completely again 😫
2021-12-03 10:13:05 <Drishal[m]> so that it does not have issues with the new version of xmonad
2021-12-03 10:15:07 <Drishal[m]> and also proper fullscreen has come back as well right?
2021-12-03 10:16:01 <thonoht[m]> Yeah, my ff now goes properly fullscreen
2021-12-03 10:17:29 <Vermoot> always?
2021-12-03 10:17:38 <Vermoot> Mine does, but sometimes refuses to
2021-12-03 10:17:47 <thonoht[m]> Yeah, I haven't seen it fail
2021-12-03 10:17:49 <Vermoot> Also xmobar sometimes stays on top
2021-12-03 10:18:15 <Vermoot> Well then I'm curious to see your config
2021-12-03 10:19:13 <thonoht[m]> I should probably move it to github :p I've had to show it here multiple times, and it's on a private git server
2021-12-03 10:21:38 <Drishal[m]> thonoht[m]: <del> gitlab better </del>
2021-12-03 10:22:15 <thonoht[m]> lol, I've seen a lot of people moving over lately
2021-12-03 10:25:18 <thonoht[m]> Vermoot: https://github.com/ThoNohT/xmonad/blob/master/xmonad.hs (you're here twice, lol)

2021-12-03 11:53:15 <spidla> Hell there, I am using Xfce + xmonad with multi-screen setup. When I click an empty screen (without any app, just a wallpaper) and hit the shortcut to change a workspace, it changes the last used screen instead of the mouse-selected one. This used to work while using xmonad without xfce session underneath. Any clues? I am able to change the focused screen via keybinding though using prevScreen/nextSreen
