2022-01-17 18:17:47 <liskin> Solid: today's session was about spending money, I think it might be okay to send you the notes from the session
2022-01-17 18:18:00 <liskin> there are some ideas that may be applicable
2022-01-17 18:18:13 <Solid> liskin: that'd be great!
2022-01-17 18:18:33 <Solid> as a sidenote: I hope OBS finds a way to spend theirs; it's... quite a lot Oo
2022-01-17 18:19:06 <liskin> yeah I remember they mentioned this on one of the monthly community calls
2022-01-17 18:20:12 <liskin> something about needing a reasonably robust/steady income before feeling comfortable actually telling someone they can quit their job and be paid from the project
2022-01-17 18:20:46 <Solid> ah yeah that makes sense
2022-01-17 18:20:49 <liskin> not really an issue for us because I'm insane (and live in Europe) and quit jobs without thinking about the future :-D
2022-01-17 18:21:03 <liskin> (j/k)
2022-01-17 18:21:21 <Solid> though I would suspect OBS being a large and well-known enough project to have a steady income streams for at least the next few years
2022-01-17 18:23:27 <liskin> possibly, but they wanted some paperwork around that, like an actual sponsorship agreement/contract 2+ years into the future
2022-01-17 18:23:49 <Solid> oh I see
2022-01-17 18:24:08 <narendranath344[> Solid: OBS has done great job till now and I think it's big enough that a company would want to invest in their project
2022-01-17 18:25:48 <liskin> Solid: e-mail sent
2022-01-17 18:27:11 <liskin> out of those money spending ideas, stickers/t-shirts is probably a good idea to do given the logo change
2022-01-17 18:27:29 <liskin> although I'm a bit confused about that being a spending thing rather than an income thing
2022-01-17 18:27:46 <Solid> gotta spend money to make money :P
2022-01-17 18:27:53 <liskin> probably :-)
2022-01-17 18:27:56 <geekosaur> there is cost inb setting it up and overhead in maintaining it
2022-01-17 18:28:25 <Solid> I was holding off buying a t-shirt until now because of the logo change
2022-01-17 18:28:39 <Solid> but now I'm hyped for merch :)
2022-01-17 18:28:41 <liskin> I was looking into that a couple months earlier, hoping to find someone who's well integrated with Open Collective, but it wasn't as easy as I'd hoped
2022-01-17 18:28:45 <geekosaur> at least, if you're making money from it. (yes, we had that old tshirt but that we couldn't make money off of, it all went to the printer)
2022-01-17 18:29:19 <liskin> yeah, there's the VAT thing, once it's a physical item there's absolutely no doubt that VAT needs to be paid
2022-01-17 18:29:44 <liskin> and I'd rather starve than deal with that kind of stuff
2022-01-17 18:30:01 <liskin> it might actually be a reasonable idea to pay someone to set it all up
2022-01-17 18:30:05 <Solid> good point
2022-01-17 18:30:33 <geekosaur> right, I actually suggested that earlier but that was what sent liskin off on his wild goose chase I think
2022-01-17 18:30:51 <geekosaur> I was surprised opencollective didn't already have it or at least an arrangement with someone
2022-01-17 18:31:31 <geekosaur> probably means there isn't enough profit involved since they'd want a cut too
2022-01-17 18:31:51 <liskin> maybe it's just that the osc/github integration set too high a bar :-)
2022-01-17 18:32:59 <liskin> I did find a couple things that worked kind of like we give them OSC's account number, they send a PDF or a piece of paper every month, we forward that to OSC, someone at OSC manually tranfers the fund to our collective, rinse and repeat every month
2022-01-17 18:33:37 <liskin> and that's like, more trouble than it's actually worth? :-)
2022-01-17 18:34:16 <geekosaur> dad got into screen printing for a while, the profit margins were way too small
2022-01-17 18:34:35 <geekosaur> even building his own printing equipment
2022-01-17 19:11:41 <Solid> liskin: I have to say I always giggle a little when consultants tell you that paying for consultants is a very good idea :P
2022-01-17 19:15:44 <geekosaur> if we do want to look into tshirts, https://www.google.com/search?q=t+shirt+printing+fundraising has a few places to look (and at least one article about it)
2022-01-17 19:40:22 <liskin> Solid: I've got to admit I have no emotional response to that any more
2022-01-17 19:43:04 <liskin> the idea of paying someone to do something that might otherwise not get done is not alien to me, although I'm seriously lacking in the "finding that someone" and "trusting them" departments, so if there's any potential emotion, it'd be closer to being depressed with myself or the world in general rather than anything even remotely resembling contempt or thinking I know better :-/
2022-01-17 19:50:17 <Solid> D:

2022-01-17 19:59:56 <liskin> Solid: I decided not to bother with a PR and just pushed my svg fixes
2022-01-17 20:00:27 <liskin> if I broke anything pls let me know or fix it; new reddit avatar and GH org avatar are also updated
2022-01-17 20:00:34 <liskin> so the only thing left is the README
2022-01-17 20:01:17 <liskin> oh and Twitter :-/
2022-01-17 20:01:41 <Solid> coolio, I'll check it out

2022-01-17 20:09:25 <liskin> Solid: would you like to have an announcement post on the website or shall I just link to the GH Discussion thread?

2022-01-17 20:16:30 <Solid> liskin: mh good question; I guess since we (also) announced the contest on the website we should announce the winner there as well
2022-01-17 20:19:54 <liskin> Solid: it's good practice to do that, yeah, but it's extra work, so… up to you :-)
2022-01-17 20:20:06 <Solid> :)
2022-01-17 20:20:17 <Solid> I'll write something up
2022-01-17 20:20:26 × qbt quits (~qbt@user/edun) (Quit: Leaving.)
2022-01-17 20:20:36 <liskin> I think I've done as much around the logo as I could have, and now it's almost getting too late to get to the trayer padding thing :-/
2022-01-17 20:23:19 <Solid> ah don't worry about that too much; I'll push some doc fixes and merge it and you can get to it when you get to it
2022-01-17 20:24:30 liskin thought it's a bit silly to change the API once it's merged, but if I get to it early enough…

2022-01-17 20:25:20 <liskin> anyway, time for a break now
2022-01-17 20:25:36 <Solid> eh, as I see it everything that's "only" in master is pretty much subject to change (that is, if we don't take 3 years for a release :>)

2022-01-17 20:56:14 <Solid> mh, don't really want to create a noise PR for such a small change; what do people think of something like https://i.imgur.com/eJj8auN.png ?

2022-01-17 22:58:21 <liskin> in completely unrelated news, in addition to the voting contest finishing, I think I'm going to finish my experiment with having Ctrl/Strg on my Caps-Lock key
2022-01-17 22:58:34 <liskin> I've been unable to get used to it in like 2 months
2022-01-17 22:58:52 <liskin> and it hasn't had any effect on my wrist whatsoever
