2021-11-21 12:24:47 <Arcanus[m]> so was there any consensus on the fullscreen Firefox issue?
2021-11-21 12:31:50 <Vermoot> Well uh, not really I think
2021-11-21 12:32:43 <Vermoot> Although we've gone on tangents regarding fullscreen vs windowed-fullscreen, which I believe is a very common issue about firefox, xmonad and fullscreen, but it's unrelated to my actual problem :D
2021-11-21 12:33:45 <Vermoot> Oh, well... strange. I've got both an eww bar and an xmobar open, and now when I go fullscreen, the eww bar disappears but not xmobar
2021-11-21 12:41:15 <Arcanus[m]> I see some search results from 6 years ago describing the same issue, and now that I know about it it is bothering me, even though I never really use fullscreen on my browsers
2021-11-21 12:42:06 <thonoht[m]> Maybe because one of the bars was lowered?
2021-11-21 12:44:26 <thonoht[m]> There's also this back for keeping trayer on top of xmobar. Maybe something similar is possible for ff?
2021-11-21 12:44:27 <Arcanus[m]> this seems more like there are 2 conflicting commands. there's FF fullscreen option, and xmonad's fullscreen option.
2021-11-21 12:45:20 <Arcanus[m]> FF takes over when in focus and activates it's own fullscreen function overriding the window manager? or something
2021-11-21 12:46:27 <Arcanus[m]> because every other program works just fine, but firefox's hotkey is also f11...what if fullscreen were remapped to a different key other than f11 in xmonad?

2021-11-21 12:48:50 <Arcanus[m]> or more likely, I don't know what I'm talking about and should shutup
2021-11-21 12:51:30 <Vermoot> Well the firefox fullscreen issue also happens when I doubleclick a youtube video so it's not a hotkey conflic
2021-11-21 12:52:10 <Vermoot> Aaaand right now when I go fullscreen both bars disappear. It's really inconsistent, which is very strange
2021-11-21 12:53:03 <Arcanus[m]> that sounds infuriating
2021-11-21 12:53:49 <Vermoot> I mean
2021-11-21 12:53:59 <Vermoot> It's not a huge problem, I can still watch the video
2021-11-21 12:54:08 <Vermoot> But it's pretty weird

2021-11-21 14:56:27 <vojjvoda[m]> I haven't set rules for certain programs to be on certain ws
2021-11-21 14:56:42 <vojjvoda[m]> For example, firefox always spawns on ws 2 on its own
2021-11-21 14:56:47 <vojjvoda[m]> How can I change that
2021-11-21 14:57:20 <vojjvoda[m]> Also, is there a way to force floating windows to appear in the centre
2021-11-21 15:09:34 <Solid> vojjvoda[m]: this is something that firefox does by itself (it's trying to be "smart" by remembering certain things); presumably, that can be turned off
2021-11-21 15:10:29 <Solid> for the second thing, something like `isFloating --> doCenterFloat`
2021-11-21 15:13:34 <vojjvoda[m]> Thank you very muchSolid

2021-11-21 20:56:10 <jakeStateless-Fa> @tell liskin You wished for me to remind you about the tree rewrite work I've started. It's on my gitlab, and in this room history, if you've lost the link.

2021-11-21 21:23:41 <jakeStateless-Fa> Hmm, I can't find it now, but there's a bug (not to be confused with the "bugs" regarding not setting a Xorg background) where the screen just goes all black, and stays that way.
2021-11-21 21:26:05 <geekosaur> never seen that here
2021-11-21 21:26:19 <geekosaur> compositor? gpu?

2021-11-21 21:27:40 <davve> xsetroot -solid "#000000"

2021-11-21 21:33:13 <FOSSHuman[m]> jake :: Stateless -> Farm: Does this happen for games, for example: before you launch the game the screen goes black before the game goes into fullscreen? This is an issue I've been having but I don't think it's related to XMonad
2021-11-21 21:33:51 <FOSSHuman[m]> * s / before you launch the game / when you launch the game /
2021-11-21 21:34:56 <FOSSHuman[m]> nvm
2021-11-21 21:35:16 <jakeStateless-Fa> No, I've only seen this twice before, and it's sporadic. This time it happened after waking my laptop from sleep (suspend, not hibernate) - I gave it a solid minute, tried to switch my TTY. Nothing... So I tapped my power button, then I saw my TTY, xorg closed, and my computer powered off.
2021-11-21 21:36:31 <geekosaur> that's far more likely to be an x server issue than an xmonad issue
2021-11-21 21:36:44 <geekosaur> can't even be a compositor issue
2021-11-21 21:37:36 <geekosaur> in fact, more specifically an xorg video driver issue
2021-11-21 21:38:30 <jakeStateless-Fa> possibly, I guess I won't ever know - unless it happens again
2021-11-21 21:39:17 <geekosaur> if you can't switch back to the text console it is a video driver issue
2021-11-21 21:40:00 <geekosaur> that operation takes place entirely inside x11, altough one can undefine the vt switching keys
2021-11-21 21:40:19 <jakeStateless-Fa> hmm, I see
