2022-10-09 15:05:05 <thyriaen> Howdy friends - I have a strange behavior - if i run a 2 tabbed windows and a floating one on top: the moment i open the floating one the current tabbed window, whichever is selected gets "remembered" - when I now switch the tabbed window to something else and i give the floating window focus, the tabbed window in the background changes focus to whatever window was "remembered"
2022-10-09 15:05:55 <geekosaur> yes, that's typical for floats
2022-10-09 15:06:08 <thyriaen> can i prevent this from happening somehow ?
2022-10-09 15:06:24 <geekosaur> try XMonad.Hooks.RefocusLast
2022-10-09 15:08:17 <thyriaen> uff
2022-10-09 15:10:33 <[Leary]> Well, the description is a bit difficult to parse. Sounds like it could be the related but distinct `focusTracking` issue.
2022-10-09 15:10:43 <thyriaen> what does <> this do ?
2022-10-09 15:11:00 <thyriaen> what is the focusTracking issue ?
2022-10-09 15:11:09 <geekosaur> monoidal append
2022-10-09 15:11:43 <thyriaen> so when i want that my Loghook is refocusLastLogHook and it was previourlsy return () i just do refocusLastLogHook <> return () >
2022-10-09 15:11:45 <thyriaen> ?
2022-10-09 15:12:23 <thyriaen> [Leary], what issue are you referring too ? how can i explain my issue better?
2022-10-09 15:12:57 <[Leary]> It's where layouts that don't have focus don't know what window to present. Wrapping the layout or sublayout in `focusTracking` is a way to tell it to keep presenting the window/s like when it last had focus.
2022-10-09 15:14:26 <thyriaen> [Leary], seems like it would fix my issue

2022-10-09 15:16:30 <thyriaen> i don't really understand how to use it, reading the documentation
2022-10-09 15:18:12 <thyriaen> myLayout = focusTracking myOldLayout ?
2022-10-09 15:19:52 <thyriaen> perfect, it works thanks :p

2022-10-09 16:24:26 <liskin> Also moving somewhere far and losing all your support network of friends and relatives is hard even if your physical and mental health is fine. It's a nightmare if not.
2022-10-09 16:35:33 <geekosaur> yeh. and yes, I'd need to get a visa
2022-10-09 16:36:10 <geekosaur> that said, between being autistic and most of my relatives being gone I, uh, have a very small support network to start with
2022-10-09 16:36:15 <geekosaur> would lose my sister though
2022-10-09 16:37:03 <geekosaur> and I don't really see any country being interested in an old autistic guy with sensory processing issues (I have in fact been stuck in the dark for the past 2 days because bright light is doing a number on my brain)
2022-10-09 16:38:33 <geekosaur> conversely, to the extent I have friends they're all on IRC so locations don't really matter 🙂

2022-10-09 16:51:24 <geekosaur> might even have my phone number in it
2022-10-09 16:51:35 <thyriaen> the web knows everything
2022-10-09 16:54:18 <geekosaur> (and you can get my real name from /whois, from linked in, and probably from dreamwidth)
2022-10-09 16:59:09 <thyriaen> what's dreamwidth ?

2022-10-09 17:03:17 <thyriaen> gives off a kinda debian vibe
2022-10-09 17:03:29 <geekosaur> that's just the logo 🙂
2022-10-09 17:03:48 <geekosaur> I admit I was fairly amused when debian adopted much the same logo
2022-10-09 17:04:04 <geekosaur> (yes, dw came first with the spiral logo)
