2022-05-16 20:49:26 <martin2222> Hi I followed the configuration tutorial and none of the additionalKeysP show up?
2022-05-16 20:50:12 <martin2222> M-] should mean super Super-] or Mod-] or Alt-]? All are not doing anything
2022-05-16 20:53:02 <geekosaur> depends on what you set modMask to, which iirc should be Super (windows key)
2022-05-16 20:54:23 <martin2222> not doing anything
2022-05-16 20:54:38 <martin2222> could Xresources be the issue?
2022-05-16 20:54:59 <martin2222> BTW: I got Alsa running with stack install instead of cabal install
2022-05-16 20:55:45 <martin2222> So that worked eventually, but I even tried cabal on throwaway users and I would always get the same problem
2022-05-16 20:56:45 <martin2222> wrt to the key bindings: I have everything exactly as in the tutorial except for layouts and trayer which I hope to replace with keybindings
2022-05-16 20:57:46 <martin2222> (Alsa and xmobar that was if people recall)
2022-05-16 21:01:48 <martin2222> The way it is done in the tutorial M-] conflicts with switching to workspace 9
2022-05-16 21:02:07 <martin2222> but when I try M-b it still won't do anything
2022-05-16 21:03:16 <martin2222> It's as if `additionalKeysP` is not there at all
2022-05-16 21:03:46 <geekosaur> workspace 9 is mod-9 not mod-] ? and mod-b is added by withEastSB not additionalKeysP
2022-05-16 21:04:04 <geekosaur> (Solid, around by any chance?)
2022-05-16 21:07:18 <fizzie> A bunch of keyboard layouts (including the conventional German one) have ] in altgr-9, which I guess that "conflicts with" may mean.
2022-05-16 21:07:18 <martin2222> ah so I think have figured it out now
2022-05-16 21:07:48 <fizzie> But if that's the case, you couldn't usefully use M-] because ] isn't a key.
2022-05-16 21:07:48 <martin2222> fizzie geekosaur yes this was confusing me ] is 9 to me
2022-05-16 21:08:16 <martin2222> can I have a keybinding with no shift?
2022-05-16 21:08:27 <martin2222> I would like to have a simpler keybinding
2022-05-16 21:08:52 <martin2222> ah works
2022-05-16 21:09:05 <martin2222> Mod+l because there were no conflicts there
2022-05-16 21:10:00 <martin2222> (geekosaur I am around here for an hour if that's what you meant) -> no brackets
2022-05-16 21:11:39 <geekosaur> you have to use keys without modifiers in there, the only modifiers that can be accepted are the ones specified before it. there's actually a keymap checker you can hook into the startupHook that will warn you if you have any such bindings
2022-05-16 21:12:15 <geekosaur> sadly there is no good way to write a binding that works with any keymap
2022-05-16 21:12:57 <geekosaur> and iirc you're in real trouble if using the "neo" keymap :)

2022-05-17 08:52:55 <lyiriyah[m]> <valarMorghulis[m> "What goes better with xmonad..." <- What do you mean by "goes better"?
2022-05-17 08:57:44 <valarMorghulis[m> lyiriyah[m]: I mean in terms of ease of integration with xmonad, ease of use, features available, more aesthetically pleasing (if both can't be configured the same) and all those stuff
2022-05-17 09:02:52 diep joins (~diep@2a01:cb11:2d7:4a00:4202:8c7d:a3d3:256f)
2022-05-17 09:15:38 <lyiriyah[m]> <valarMorghulis[m> "I mean in terms of ease of..." <- Taffybar has a more XMonad-esque configuration, but I can find next to no information on how to actually integrate it with XMonad (mostly seems to be the dev pointing people to the Taffybar Gitter chat). Really, it's a personal thing. I absolutely *hate* the way Polybar is configured, for instance.
2022-05-17 09:17:21 <lyiriyah[m]> Both seem to have similar feature sets (you can see Taffybar's list of widgets [here](https://hackage.haskell.org/package/taffybar) and Polybar's [here](https://github.com/polybar/polybar/wiki/Configuration), and both allow for running custom commands)
