2022-06-13 07:21:30 <alternateved> Solid: I am not, I am afraid. Not in this year. :)
2022-06-13 07:22:58 <alternateved> But I am pretty close, in Poland, and the weather is similar. Yesterday was really hot, but today I see rain outside
2022-06-13 07:27:09 <Solid[m]> ah I see
2022-06-13 07:27:25 <Solid[m]> well, hopefully we'll see you here next year :)
2022-06-13 07:38:25 <alternateved> I sure hope so :)

2022-06-13 08:02:49 <deepy> I've got apple music running in firefox and I want it to always to be in workspace 7, I tried a manageHook with title =? "‎Apple Music — Mozilla Firefox" but I'm guessing Firefox starts with a different title and then after having parsed the HTML it sets the title, what are my other options?
2022-06-13 08:08:24 zawaken- is now known as zawaken
2022-06-13 08:10:52 <[Leary]> deepy: Have a look at X.H.DynamicProperty.
2022-06-13 08:11:55 <deepy> Awesome, that is exactly what I'm looking for! Thank you :-)

2022-06-13 13:48:41 <spaceseller> volume in xmobar template became a problem when i replace pulseaudio with pipewire. Just to know if someone would have the same problem.
2022-06-13 13:50:40 <geekosaur> hm. it should be querying ALSA directly; volume is its problem, pipewire and pulseaudio are about audio routing and multiplexing audio streams onto the same output(s)
2022-06-13 13:52:01 <spaceseller> I put it: Run Volume "default" "Master" [] 10
2022-06-13 13:52:07 <spaceseller> in my xmobarrc
2022-06-13 13:52:47 <spaceseller> but never mind, the volume is not the so neccessary to me.
2022-06-13 13:53:20 <spaceseller> I spent too much time to find the issue of the blink once and dissapear xmobar
2022-06-13 13:55:04 <spaceseller> without volume it works find and it is visible all the time.
2022-06-13 13:55:45 <spaceseller> btw, xmobar irc channel has only few members, at least on Libera
2022-06-13 13:56:47 <spaceseller> it is wierd when it comes with xmonad hand by hand, so to speak
2022-06-13 13:57:37 <geekosaur> it's not really related
2022-06-13 13:58:23 <geekosaur> and various people use other bars (dzen2, polybar, taffybar, xmonad-log-applet in desktop manager panels, etc.)
2022-06-13 14:00:20 <alternateved> I have massive issues with volume plugin in xmobar.
2022-06-13 14:01:13 <alternateved> With pipewire and nix. In the end I decided to use simple bash script that would print me the value of volume/capture volume and if those were muted
2022-06-13 14:03:10 <alternateved> I've never had much luck with xmobar and pipewire
2022-06-13 14:08:23 <spaceseller> oh, it's good to know.
2022-06-13 14:08:39 <spaceseller> i got a go, see you

2022-06-13 15:33:31 <slack1256> Is there a module on -contrib for linking workspaces? Something like "go to last workspace" but user defined.
2022-06-13 15:34:57 <geekosaur> https://hackage.haskell.org/package/xmonad-contrib-0.17.0/docs/XMonad-Actions-LinkWorkspaces.html maybe? although it really wants them to be visible on a multiscreen setup
2022-06-13 15:37:15 <slack1256> Yeah, but it is along the lines
2022-06-13 15:39:36 <slack1256> I think I can also make https://hackage.haskell.org/package/xmonad-contrib-0.17.0/docs/XMonad-Actions-DynamicWorkspaceGroups.html this work.
2022-06-13 15:39:46 <slack1256> Anyways I got some reading to do, thanks geekosaur.
2022-06-13 15:40:23 <geekosaur> that was the other thing I was thinking of, yes, but seemed a bit less like it
2022-06-13 15:40:35 <geekosaur> if nothing else you have something to start from :)
2022-06-13 15:40:46 <slack1256> Both are multihead oriented, but I think I can adapt them.

2022-06-13 15:42:36 <geekosaur> there's also doing it from scratch, stash the workspace name of the linked workspace in XS and provide a keybind to switch to that workspace (swapping it in XS with the current one so that keybind is a toggle)
2022-06-13 16:00:08 × robinhood0018[m] quits (~robinhood@2001:470:69fc:105::1:4dca) (Quit: You have been kicked for being idle)
2022-06-13 16:02:29 <[Leary]> slack1256: I have something like that in my keybinds, but I don't bother with XS or any contrib modules. It's pretty easy if the links are static; e.g. `gets (W.currentTag . windowset) >>= windows . W.view . f` for `f` of your choice.
2022-06-13 16:06:21 <[Leary]> (where `f` is a mapping between workspaces tags)

2022-06-13 16:47:43 <liskin> I've been thinking about the Arch issues we get so so often. We do recommend using distro packages on our website. Perhaps we can't blame the people who heed that advice then
2022-06-13 16:52:35 × alternateved quits (~alternate@37.120.156.148) (Ping timeout: 256 seconds)
2022-06-13 16:53:17 <geekosaur> that cuts both ways: we have distro packages because people ask about them vs. installing from hackage or git. indeed we've had several people in here who claim to only trust distro packages
2022-06-13 16:53:40 <geekosaur> of course distributions may be solving that problem for us by not keeping up to date

2022-06-13 20:20:59 <liskin> I normally tend to trust distro packages more than anything else myself. But I can't afford to apply that to Haskell/Rust packages because they're either unmaintained or non-existent :-)
